Appraisals
Possibly the only other reason apart from why i’ve been busy with work is the fact that appraisals are just round the corner.
In my humble 4 years of working full time, i never dealt with an appraisal before and like all virgin experiences, you just want to give it all you’ve got.
Sure, i have heard from people including my mother on how they much they hated appraisals but until one experiences it, one has no clue how scary the process can be.
And honestly, i don’t know what’s scarier.
The thought that they have begun appraising me since April or the knowledge that i have gone a stage higher in my career.
Just the other day, my boss called me in and discussed the possibility of hiring an assistant for me. It’s a silly business decision in my opinion but from what i have come to understand, my predecessor had an assistant working for her and thus, they assumed i would need one too.
As what i told a colleague of mine, “Why don’t they just save the money and increase my market value in this company?”
The principle of fair conpensation works very well with me but perhaps it is like what Old boy suggested, that they saw the intrinsic value of having me around to assist their businesses.
I know i sound mean and i may seem contemptuous but seriously speaking, there’s not enough clients to justify the need for an assistant although the bills i generate each month is enough to cover.
At least, not from my perspective.
